The AKF-CAS6 multi station fully automatic moisture analyzer is a Coulombic Karl Fischer moisture analyzer with an automatic sampling system launched by Shanghai Hegong Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd. It can be used for simple, fast, and reliable Karl Fischer Coulombic moisture determination. The instrument uses the classical Karl Fischer principle to determine the moisture content in the sample by reacting the electrolytic reagent with the moisture in the sample. It can measure the moisture content of various insoluble samples in industries such as lithium batteries and petrochemicals. It has the advantages of high measurement accuracy, fast speed, and stable and reliable measurement data.
When determining the moisture content according to the Karl Fischer method, water will react with iodine and sulfur dioxide in the presence of methanol and organic bases according to the following chemical reaction equation:
H2O + I2 + SO2 + CH3OH + 3RN→[RHN]SO4CH3 + 2[RHN]I -----(1)
In terms of volumetric titration, iodine is added as a titrant, and during Coulombic titration, iodine is produced by electrochemical oxidation of the electrolytic cell

As long as there is water in the electrolyte, the iodine produced will undergo a chemical reaction according to the chemical reaction equation (1). I2 and H2O will react with each other in a 1:1 ratio. According to Faraday's law, the amount of iodine produced is 10.72 ° C · 1 μ g H2O, which is proportional to the charge. Therefore, the current consumption can be used as the basis for measuring moisture content.
Once all the water participates in the chemical reaction, a small excess of iodine will form in the anode region of the electrode. The excess iodine can be measured using a polarized electrode, and electrolysis will stop, with no more iodine produced.
